Created in 1961, ELISAVA is the leading design school affiliated to Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) which delivers an innovative, creative, cross-disciplinary range of education and research services that are closely aligned with the professional world. It offers official degrees in Design, Engineering Building and Engineering in Industrial Design developed by the European Space for Higher Education. It also provides professional graduate programmes, including Spain's first official Masters Degree in Design & Communication, as well as specialist design courses for professionals and companies.

The Photography and Design Program fills the gap in the teaching of new applications in photography that has appeared with the upsurge of new digital technologies and the growing importance of photography in 21st century society and culture - not only as a working tool but also as an effective means of communicating ideas and concepts. This highly practical course not only focuses on mastering photographic techniques but also on students’ ability to articulate ideas by producing photography projects that are coupled with a rigorous understanding and the ability to critique photographic representation in particular and visual communication and culture in general, in the context of the photography market.
