The work that I create is mostly based around personal life experiences. I like to deal with difficult subject matters that require research and focus.

My biggest inspiration as an artist is Taryn Simon. I admire her dedication and intensity to her
subject matters. She is an artist who focuses heavily on the research of her project before creating images; I believe this is the most successful way to produce documentary photography. My work consists mainly of documentary and fine art photography but I enjoy all areas of photography. I am also interested in fine art, particularly drawing. I don’t like to limit myself to just taking photographs because mixing mediums is much more satisfying.

My most recent project was an exploration of imprisonment and isolation, the project started with joining a forum called write a prisoner.com this was a useful source of research and inspiration for the project that followed. During the project I completed a series of performance experiments that included imprisoning myself in a room and locking myself in a small wooden box for a prolonged period of time. Through these experiments I created a body of work, which included images, drawings, and a written diary of the experiences. My aim for the project was to understand the feeling of imprisonment and isolation as these were things that seemed very foreign to me and I felt quite naive about the subject matter.

This is a project I am continuing with but now I am concentrating more on contacting actual prisoners and using them to direct my work, which is something I started to do at the very beginning of this project but held off for the end results, as it is a very lengthy process.
