Having an interest in several areas of photography has allowed Carla to produce pieces of work that show her willingness to experiment and not to be boxed into one particular genre.
Documentary and portraiture are prominent in her more recent works on The Mortuary, which explored the stillness, beauty and light of a space that is usually perceived as dark and morbid, and Dark & Ugly?, which is a self-portraiture response to the controversial skin whitening adverts that Carla encountered in India.
Confronting personal feelings and experiences are a strong driving force in her work and in her latest project Carla has taken a curatorial role as she is working with found imagery and text to produce an archival piece of work on her late father.
