The aim of my photographic practise is to explore and reveal areas of interest that I feel need a voice. My most successful work is based on exploring the social structure and landscape of Dagenham. Dagenham is a very personal place for me as it is where I grew up and learned many of my life lessons. As a place Dagenham makes itself remote by functioning in its own way regardless of it closeness to London. In the past Dagenham was famous for the production of Ford Cars and its large concentration of working class people, these days it’s only known for negative press or the BNP. The aim of most of my projects is to reveal that there is a lot more going on in the area, to improve its name and the lives of its residence. I do this by approaching the area in an almost Documentary style and methodology that gives me a starting point but no real end because the story is constantly changing. In the future I would like my practise to expand to other areas that function in the remote way Dagenham does. It is a personal ambition of mine to continue to document Dagenham and record how it changes for the better or worse.
