The desire is not so much to have the portraits as to be portrayed: the atavic need to prevent in some way our existence from being obliterated over time. To capture what will be lost in the mystery of time and substance, in an image. To represent something which revolves around words like “existence”, “time”, “death”, something which is impossible to define exhaustively using the categories of our thinking and language because it is out of our grasp and mysterious, but can be expressed using the symbolic language of photography, which reach beyond the narrow space of our rationality like a bridge between the known and the unknowable. The present and the past melted in our perception.
