My photographic practice concerns with understanding people's relations with photography in itself. My current work includes a series on transformation in Rural lives in India (after Irving Penn). In continuation of this work, space transformations through studios have also been explored. Another ongoing work on Wildlife photography is being shot in the studio, being represented differently to reflect on people’s anxieties to shoot wildlife.

The series called “Rural Life and Studio Sets” looks at revisiting photographic traditions of erstwhile studio photography culture. Popularity of portraiture in early years after advent of photography was inextricably linked to the need of the bourgeoisie to represent itself. Every culture then developed its own style of studio portraitures with one common thread of people’s aspirations running common through each of these sets.

While the studio set created in the Indian village represented rural transformations (Burj Dubai as an upcoming symbol of a modern monument), the setup in Farnham used the Taj Mahal to represent a broader Indian village psyche, as experienced by me, juxtaposed with peoples of another nationality.

The Taj Mahal and Burj Dubai backdrops serve as fanciful monuments and transform the sitters into another place. The poses are purposeful and represent people posing if they were actually getting photographs clicked in front of the monument. In comparison to the series in India, the people react less formally to this transformation and indeed like to pose more confidently and are at ease with the camera.

Some of the latest achievements include being shortlisted for the ‘TOTO Funds the Arts Photography Award’ constituted by TFA and Tasveer Arts in Bangalore. I also find mention in an interview by Photographer’s Gallery in London for the Telegraph UK as a ‘Talent Spot’.
