Rachael Gesh is a still life photographer who’s work predominantly revolves around institutions. She is intrigued by power relations and explores these in a subtle, yet somewhat amusing way. ’Courtroom session’ played with these power relations and was influenced by David Moore’s ’The Commons’ series, she transposed his eye for detail into her own work. Her style borders on abstract and she tends to focus in on areas of these institutions which would normally go unnoticed, such as crumbs under a curtain, or a napkin down the side of a seat. By scrutinising these areas she creates work which shows these institutions at a deeper and more meaningful level.
