William Swainger

A fine art photographer, based in the U.K. The medium of William Swainger’s work can vary greatly. From portraiture and sculptural work to landscape and Architectural photography. Despite this, the themes in Williams work strike a constant tone. Taking influences not only from other photographers but also artists, literature, journalists, science and philosophy to inform his work and further his understanding.

Being drawn to powerful or influential institutions and concepts that showcase the power and incredible achievements humanity can reach when working together. William is also showing our own frailties as individuals. Paradoxically, this has also lead to questions of our acceptance and understanding of these institutions in an increasingly modern society, far removed from our roots.

William has addressed these themes in his latest work ‘epistemology’. Which examined our understanding of knowledge itself through photographic deception and an on going series examining church buildings and their roles in an increasingly secular society.
