The act of photography and the process of the camera are of a continuous interest for me. The medium still holds a sense of mystery; the choice to ‘capture’ a moment is so frequently questioned, our motives for possessing a specific scene unclear, often even to ourselves. The act of duplication in the practicalities of photography reflect procreation, it appears the human desire to duplicate and reproduce is increasingly affecting all aspects of life.

With my work, I aim to explore the relationship we have with photography, the act of the camera and the process involved. The decreasing use of film photography is poignant in my practice, particularly the loss of thoughtfulness and care when taking a photo. The digital era allows us to ‘Shoot the sky with silver lining’, giving us new accessibility to duplication and disposability. I find film holds personality, we are aware of the time put into capturing, processing and perfecting a print, and we find traces of emotion and character within a hand crafted image.
